For over 20 years, the UK MPLC has been regarded as a leading source
of copyright information as well as provider of the MPLC Umbrella
Licence® for non-commercial movie exhibitions. In 2003, MPLC made its Umbrella Licence avaiable in the UK and then across Europe.
Since its inception, the use of media for home-use only has
expanded far beyond its original purpose. Today, organisations
use movies not only for entertainment, but as training
tools and supplements to their existing programs.
Prior to the MPLC’s inception, public performance licences
were issued on a title-by-title basis, a time consuming and
expensive process for the group wishing to show the movie.
In December, 1986 MPLC began issuing
blanket or Umbrella Licenses, which would allow an organisation
an unlimited number of showings of titles from all MPLC authorised
producers for a flat, annual fee.
Currently, over 450,000 locations around the world are covered
under the MPLC Umbrella Licence, including multi-national
companies, government agencies
and non profit organisations.
The MPLC has offices in the US, UK, Spain, Germany, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Chile, Brazil, Mexico, and Japan. Anti-piracy organisations investigate and prosecute copyright infringements throughout the world.
